St. Beaufort is a group on a journey. Emerging from Hungerhoff & The Wild Roots in Berlin in 2013, the original “Mark I” lineup featured founder members Joe Jakubczyk on banjo, Derek Ullenboom on mandolin, and Henric Hungerhoff on guitar. The trio recorded its first full-length, self-titled album with engineer Jacopo Vannini in a live setup at Manor House Rensow in Mecklenburg.
In 2016, Derek introduced Joe and Henric to Chilean musician Tomás Peralta González, expanding the band’s sound with bass, mandolin, and lap steel guitar. This “Mark II” lineup recorded St. Beaufort’s second full-length album, Trails & Guns, in 2018, produced by Tomás. All album tracks were recorded at a farmhouse near Borken, North Rhine-Westphalia, with overdubs added in Berlin by friends of the trio, including horn player Matias Piñeira and violinist Héloïse Lefebvre. In 2022, the band released their third full-length album, Those Windows, recorded and mixed by Tomás at Blue Whale Records Studios in Berlin-Wedding.
Since 2024, St. Beaufort has continued as a duo, with Joe and Henric, releasing their first duo tracks in 2025, featuring a more contemporary folk sound.
